A man in his 60s has died after a house fire broke out in the early hours of the morning in Hollyhill Cork.
The blaze occurred at a residence in Ardcullen shortly 1.30 am.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with fire crews using breathing apparatus to gain access to the burning building.
Inside, firefighters discovered a man unconscious.
Paramedics administered emergency treatment at the scene, but despite their efforts, the man was later pronounced dead.
A woman in her 60s was transferred to Cork University Hospital with non life threating injuries
The house has been sealed off and a full technical examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
Investigations are ongoing.
