Criminal Gang Dismantled

Gardaí in Cork have dealt a major blow to a crime gang operating on the south side of the city following a major multi-agency operation in the Blackrock area this morning.

Up to 60 Gardaí from across the Cork Division were involved in the operation, which targeted suspected criminal activity in Cork and beyond.

Members of the Armed Support Unit, Drugs Unit and Dog Unit took part, along with personnel from the Revenue Commissioners and the ISPCA.

During a number of searches, quantities of drugs including heroin and crack cocaine were seized.

Thousands of euro in cash, a quantity of weapons and a number of suspected stolen vehicles were also recovered.

These included suspected stolen e-scooters, scramblers and a caravan.

A number of ponies and dogs were also seized under animal welfare legislation.

Garda sources have described the operation as a significant development in a major ongoing investigation and said it has dealt a substantial blow to the criminal gang being targeted.

One man has been arrested as part of the operation and is currently assisting Gardaí with their enquiries.

Follow-up investigations are continuing.
