Ian Bailey’s ashes have been scattered during a memorial ceremony in West Cork this afternoon Friday 20-6-25
The spreading of the ashes followed a request he made to his sister Kay Reynolds sometime ago.
The self confessed prime suspect in the murder of French Tv producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier collapsed and died of of a heart attack in Bantry last year.
67 year old Bailey was cremated a number of days later. No one except the undertakers were present at the cremation.
Following the spreading of the ashes Baileys sister Kay Reynolds said today was an extremely sad occasion and she wanted to do right by right by Ian.
Ms Reynolds said she feels very sorry for the family of Sophie Toscan du Plantier adding her brother did not murder the mother of one.
The 39 year old French woman was found dead at the bottom of the laneway leading up to her holiday home in West Cork in December 1996.
British born Bailey was arrested on two occasions but never charged.
He always maintained he was innocent of any involvement in the brutal murder.
Today’s memorial was attended by members of his family and invited friends including his Solicitor Frank Buttimer Barrister’s Tom Creed and Jim Duggan as well as Journalists Ralph Reigel Barry Roche Ali Bracken and Donal MacIntyre.
Film maker Jim Sheridan whose new docudrama entitled Re-Creation which premiered recently at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York was also present.
Sheridan who believes Bailey was “probably 100 0/0 innocent“ says his newly produced drama sheds new light on the murder investigation .
