A basketball coach who was under investigation for sexual abuse has died.
The man who coached in the Munster area was suspended from his role after a number of people reported allegations of sexual assault to Garda earlier this year.
Its understood the complaints were made by underage basketball players who would have been in regular contact with the coach as part of a training programme.
Once Gardai commenced the investigation the coach was contacted and informed he was suspended and to have no contact with the complainants and was also no longer allowed to continue coaching.
In a statement at the time Basketball Ireland the governing body for the sport confirmed the coach had been suspended and it was working closely with Gardai.
