A school has been forced to close today after an incident in which several staff members were reportedly injured.
All About Cork understands that crews from the National Ambulance Service responded to a call at the school around lunchtime yesterday following reports that a number of people had been hurt.
It is understood that one person was treated at the scene, while two others were brought to hospital by a colleague.
An email was subsequently circulated which stated, in part:
“As you may be aware, a serious incident occurred in the school today resulting in a number of staff being injured.
Consequently, a number of staff, including members of the leadership team, will not be available for work tomorrow, February 27th.
Unfortunately, in this situation, we have no option but to close the school tomorrow, February 27th.
We deeply regret this; however, the safety and welfare of students and staff must be our first priority.”
For legal reasons, All About Cork is not identifying the school or providing details about the nature of the alleged “serious incident”.
Sources say staff have been left shocked by yesterday’s events and are awaiting further updates.
Staff members have been told they will receive additional information later today.
The school, which is located in the Munster area, could not be reached for comment as it remains closed.
