If you’re willing to take on a renovation project, there are still houses in Cork city and its suburbs being advertised for under €200,000. From a two-bed in Turners Cross to a one-bed cottage with extension potential, these three properties could be worth a look for buyers with the time, budget and vision to take on a project.

3 Hollyville, Curragh Road, Turners Cross — €190,000

At €190,000, this two-bedroom terraced house in Turners Cross offers a relatively rare entry point into one of Cork city’s established residential areas. The property has high ceilings, double-glazed windows and a small rear yard, while the accommodation includes a living room, kitchen/dining area, utility room and two bedrooms. With plenty of modern features this would be perfect for someone who wants to move in right away and renovate over time.

The house is currently rated BER G, and the listing highlights its potential for renovation or refurbishment. Its location is another attraction, with several bus stops within a short walk.

3 Scabeg, South Douglas Road — €195,000

For buyers looking for a more substantial project, 3 Scabeg is a two-bedroom, single-storey terrace priced at €195,000.

The listing is very clear about the scale of the work involved: the property is in need of major refurbishment. It offers almost 70m² of accommodation, between the original house and an extension. Perhaps most interestingly for renovators, the property has parking to the rear, a boon for any city property at this price point.

2 Charleville Cottages, Alexandra Road — €149,500

The cheapest of the three is 2 Charleville Cottages in Dillons Cross, with an asking price of €149,500.

This one-bedroom mid-terrace house is described as being in need of complete refurbishment, but it comes with a large enclosed rear garden and potential for an extension. The 47m² property includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom and upstairs bedroom, while its location puts it within walking distance of a range of amenities and close to regular bus services into Cork city centre.

For anyone prepared to put in the work, it is the lowest-priced option of the three, leaving more room in the initial budget for renovation costs.

All three properties come in below €200,000, but they offer quite different propositions. Hollyville is already presented as a home with a number of usable features, Scabeg is a more substantial refurbishment project, while Charleville Cottages offers the lowest purchase price and potential to extend in the future.

Of course, the asking price is only the starting point with a project property. Renovation costs, planning requirements, energy upgrades and structural work can all have a major impact on the final budget, so a thorough survey and professional opinions would be essential before making an offer. For the right buyer, any of these three could be transformed into a home to be proud of.
