Couple Escape Serious Injury After Lorry Collides with Car in Jack Lynch Tunnel
A husband and wife had a narrow escape this afternoon after the car they were travelling in was struck by a lorry in Cork.
The collision occurred shortly after 3pm on Thursday, August 21st, in the southbound bore of the Jack Lynch Tunnel.
It is understood that the lorry collided with the car at the entrance to the tunnel and continued on before coming to a stop halfway through.
Emergency services including crews from Cork City Fire Brigade , the National Ambulance and Gardai quickly responded to the scene.
The woman was transported to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for further assessment. Her husband, who was driving the car, and the driver of the lorry were uninjured.
It is believed that the couple were on their way to a garage to exchange the car for another vehicle they had purchased earlier.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident.
