Casting The Net

1 Min Read

A Cork-based seafood business, Paulona Seafoods Ltd., has launched a new online seafood auction that’s already making waves.

Buyers can now bid for freshly caught Irish fish in real time — no need to flounder around the docks! It’s the first time an online auction is been used in Ireland to sell seafood, and it’s helping the industry scale new depths.

The platform is streamlining the sale of fresh catches, adding crystal-clear transparency to pricing, and giving the local fishing fleet something to carp about — in a good way.

The live online auction is partnering with French seafood auction house CCI Finistere and is aligned with the Guilvinic auction. Taking place twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, it gives access to 260 buyers — quite the catch!

By casting the net directly into the French market, where demand for fresh, high-quality whole fish is strong, the initiative is helping to keep incomes on an even keel and ensuring Irish seafood continues to swim upstream in value.
