Congratulations to PJ Coogan who this week celebrates 35 years on air with Corks 96FM .
First met him when we booth worked in Pirate radio and have been pals and colleagues ever since.
One thing I’ve learned about PJ is even if he’s wrong on something don’t be bothered to argue with him because he always thinks he’s right.
He’s off air tomorrow and Friday and he’s let me in charge of the shop – which will be open for your calls from 9 bells.
Dr Coogan is in London to attend a gala event marking thirty five years service at the radio station, who’s parent company, Wireless is part of global media giant, News(UK & Ireland)
The annual Long Service Awards are presented at “The News Building”, close to London Bridge.
PJ joined Cork’s 96FM, then called “Radio South”, from RTE in August 1989, and was one of the first voices on air at the new station.
After more than twenty years in the stations Newsroom, PJ moved to host “The Opinion Line” in 2014.
The man himself said “I’ve been more than half my life in 96FM so I must be doing something right! It’s lovely to have those years formally recognised. They’re stuck with me now – I’ll have to go for the 40!.”
A self confessed “election nerd”, PJ will spend his weekend at the Nemo count centre, and is back on air on Monday – as he always puts it himself: “Just after 9..”
