Planning was granted in 2023, construction was to begin last January but nothing has happened since.

I speak of the 106 million Euro Cork University Business School which was proposed for the former Brooks Haughton timber yard site on South Terrace and nearby streets in Cork.

UCC said the building would be at the centre of the colleges commitment to delivering a world class experience to its students, faculty, and business.

8 months on from when work was to commence the site remains boarded up and people are asking questions.

Sinn Fein TD Thomas Gould says ” If UCC are not going to progress their plans then it is time for Cork City Council to CPO the site and bring it into use as homes or as community services. This site could be redeveloped to attract people to the area and improve the communities quality of life, right now all it attracts are rats and anti-social behaviour”.

The graphics look great but that’s the nearest we have come to seeing the proposed build

The college was expected to accommodate almost 5.000 students employ 250 people and act as a massive financial boost to the area.

In 2019 the State approved the college a grant of 25 million Euro towards the project.

UCC has been contacted for comment.

Sadly Cork seems to be jinxed when it comes to multi million Euro projects where the State has promised funding.

One just has to cast an eye over to South Main Street where its planned to build an Event Centre.

The sod was turned in 2016. today however the site is commonly known as the Non Event Centre
