Its written by a rower, it stars rowers, they rehearsed in the gym and its being staged at a Rowing Club.
After floating the idea they have eventually decided to launch….The Girls in the Boat.
What inspired Angela Keogh to write the play? Theres a richness in the lives of women who train together. They are fiercely competitive, caring, fun and forgiving. Its impossible to put them in a box and I think this play shows a wide lensed view of womens lives.
Will it appeal to people who might not have the same passion for rowing? Yes, the lives of the women are central to the story. A sons drug use, divorce, love and loss are all themes in the play. It touches on the darker side of competitive sport but ultimately its an inspirational and life affirming work.
Where can we see it?
Lee Rowing Club on Saturday 7th September at 8pm. Tickets 15 on Eventbrite.
