A man remains in custody after a shotgun was seized in Mallow, Cork during the early hours of this morning Thursday.
Around 1.10am, Garda� operating a checkpoint stopped a car and during a search a shotgun plus a quantity ammunition was found.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently being questioned in relation to the find.
The operation involved the Mallow Detective Unit, Mallow Drugs Unit and Mallow Roads Policing Unit.
The seized items will be forwarded to The Garda Ballistics Unit for further analysis in a bid to determine if the gun has been used in previous crimes
