If they came to Ireland last month hoping for a spell of great weather well I’m afraid they were totally let down in that area.

I speak of visitors from overseas who arrived in their thousands and dropped a few bob during their stay in Ireland.

Latest figures from the CSO show that 655,400 foreign visitors completed a trip to Ireland in July 2024, an increase of 0.8% compared with July 2023.

The largest contingent of visitors came from Great Britain, followed by the United States and then Germany

The visitors spent �919.2 million in total on their trips, up 5.0% when compared with July 2023.

While the hospitality sector are somewhat happy with the latest results the industry continues to call on the Government to reduce the VAT rate to 9.5 percent.

Industry chiefs say the sector can no longer afford to absorb rising costs and something has to give.
