A cheeky little Sprocker,  a cross between a Springer Spaniel and a Cocker Spaniel,  from Fermoy has been flying the flag for Cork after making it all the way to the Puppy of the Year 2026 Grand Final in Dublin.

Goose, owned by Emma Heffernan, was one of 26 county finalists chosen from an impressive 1,414 entries across Ireland.

The adorable pup travelled to the National Show Centre in Dublin on Saturday, October 17, where he joined fellow finalists for the big occasion, hosted by Eurovision star and animal lover Linda Martin.

What makes Goose’s achievement even sweeter is that Emma had only welcomed him into her home three weeks before entering the competition!

And it sounds like the mischievous little fellow has already made quite an impression, particularly when it comes to stealing socks.

“He’s such a funny little dog and never fails to make anyone around him smile. There is not one pair of socks in the house that he has not retrieved, but he’s my silly little goose and for that he can bring me socks every morning if that’s what makes him happy!” Emma said.

Goose was representing Cork in the Petmania Puppy of the Year competition, which is now in its 11th year.

While the Munster title went to Sullivan, a Golden Retriever–Cocker Spaniel cross from Limerick, the overall crown was claimed by Ivy, a Dalmatian from Ballina in Co. Mayo.

Goose might not have brought home the top prize, but he certainly did Cork proud and we reckon his sock-stealing antics have already earned him a special place in plenty of hearts!

Well done, Goose!
