The woman who died during an incident in Midelton Co Cork yesterday has been named locally as Daena Walsh.
The mother of two was found critically injured by emergency services who responded to a fire at her apartment off the Main Street in the town at around 4pm yesterday.
On arrival they discovered 27 year old Ms Walsh had been stabbed and despite the best efforts by Paramedics she was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 29 year old man known to the victim was arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of murder.
