A 12 year old girl is in Temple Street Childrens Hospital after she was assaulted at a house on the New Line Charleville Co Cork last night.
Gardai responded to a shout of criminal damage and assault and launched an investigation after discovering a child had been injured and damage caused to the house as well as a car.
Its understood five men wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons forced their way into the house and the girl sustained serios head injuries.
The child was first taken to CUH but the injuries were so serious she was later transferred to Hospital in Dublin.
The scene of the incident was preserved and a technical examination has since been conducted by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.
Garda� are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward or who may have been in the vicinity of the New Line in Charleville town on Monday 19th August 2024 between 10.30pm and 12.00am midnight. Additionally, any persons with camera footage (including dash-cam footage) from the area at the time are encouraged to provide it to investigating Garda�.
