An inmate at Cork Prison who has links to the Kinahan cartel is in solitary confinement following a serious assault at the Prison this evening Wednesday.
It is understood that the victim, a woman who was visiting the prison, was attacked by an inmate during the visit
Prison staff responded immediately and alerted emergency services.
Due to the severity of her injuries, paramedics decided the woman required urgent hospital treatment and she was transported by ambulance for further care.
In a statement issued Wednesday night, the Irish Prison Service confirmed that an incident had occurred.
“The Irish Prison Service can confirm that an assault took place during a visit at Cork Prison this evening. The matter has been reported to An Garda Síochána. As such, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
Sources indicate that the inmate involved in the attack is believed to be in a relationship with the woman
