“Is this really happening?” — that was the thought running through Cork actor Daniel Power when Christy scooped the Best Film award at last night’s Irish Film & Television Academy Awards.
Speaking to All About Cork while travelling home by train this morning — IFTA trophy proudly by his side — Daniel described the win as “massive,” saying it has boosted his confidence and reassured him that he’s made for the film industry.

Although he admitted to feeling a little disappointed at missing out on the Best Actor award, the 24-year-old remains more determined than ever to continue pursuing what he loves.
The Gurranabraher native, who has been acting since the age of 17, said it was a wonderful night. He particularly enjoyed meeting and chatting with so many talented actors, many of whom he greatly admires.
Primarily shot in Knocknaheeny Cork ,Christy tells the story of an 18 year old who attempts to battle his way through life after he was kicked out of a foster home
Daniel also paid tribute to director Brendan Canty , who won Director (Film) for Christy. The film also saw Allyn Quigley recognised for Editing, while Amy Rowan took home the award for Casting.

Co-star Jamie Forde, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, may not have won on the night, but Daniel said he has no doubt Jamie is hugely talented and destined for great things.
Arriving into Kent Railway Station this morning, Daniel was greeted by friends and family — including his number one fan, his six-year-old son, Kiano.
As for how he plans to celebrate?
“A big dirty kebab,” he laughed.
