Tony the dog has had an incredibly tough life. Now he needs a safe home where he can be taken care of.
Tony is a Patterdale Terrier and he is four years old. When Tony came to the CSPCA he had terrible injuries and infections, he was underweight and not properly cared for. He was likely used for the illegal sport of badger baiting which has left him in a lot of pain and distress.
CSPCA is working hard to rehabilitate Tony, and they need a caring and capable home to take Tony in. Tony’s new family will need to be familiar with the Patterdale Terrier breed, and be able to take care of him throughout his recovery. Tony would not do well in a home with cats, and would likely suit an older family with teenagers or grown up children. Tony has already been neutered and microchipped.

Patterdale Terriers are typically small, energetic dogs, great for people who like to spend time outdoors. They can have mischievous personalities, which makes them a little harder to train. Patterdale Terriers should have their coats brushed once or twice a week to keep them in good condition.
When adopting a dog who has been abused, remember they can be shy and mistrusting. Be mindful of potential triggers, and be gentle when petting them. Making sure they have a safe space to retreat to can help you to build your relationship. Developing a routine with regular feeding and exercise times can help to establish trust.
The abuse that Tony has endured is some of the worst the CSPCA has seen this year. This ill-treatment and neglect is not right. CSPCA are appealing for anybody with information about Tony, or any illegal hunting practices to come forward, you can email info@cspca.ie

Tony is currently under veterinary care, but will need a home soon. If you could take care of Tony, and give him the life he deserves, fill out the dog adoption form here.
Once you fill out the form, the CSPCA will be in contact with you, and help determine if you are the right fit for Tony. There is an adoption fee of €250 to cover the cost of his medical treatments and care. You will also need ID, proof of address, and a dog license.
