Mature trees are to be felled to make way for cycle lanes on Knockfree Avenue Farranree Cork but locals are totally opposed to the planned move by Cork City Council.
Homeowners in the area say it will have a devastating impact on the close knit community and are calling on City Council to halt the project.
Speaking to Paul Byrne on Cork’s 96FM this morning, local resident Deirdre O’Connell said groups of local residents had turned out to protest the removal of the trees, calling the decision “a disgrace”.
“I understand there’s safety issues. I completely understand that. But they’re tearing down trees, they’re getting rid of habitats for animals and insects and they’re taking the life out of the area.”
It’s understood up to 8 tress are for the axe but protesters say they will continue to voice their opposition until the Council row back.
