Cork-based food business Seventy Seven has announced an exciting expansion into the Hot School Meals sector, bringing freshly prepared, nutritious lunches to schools across the city. The initiative not only supports the health and wellbeing of local children, but also creates employment and strengthens ties with Cork’s celebrated food producers.
Well-known for feeding hundreds of people each week through its popular venues, Dwyers and Seventy Seven, the company now sets its sights on nourishing the next generation.
“After feeding hundreds of people each week in Dwyers and Seventy Seven, we wanted to expand our business to feed the next generation,” said Rory Murphy, Director at Seventy Seven. “Ensuring children have access to healthy, delicious meals every school day is something we’re deeply passionate about.”
The meals are prepared daily in Seventy Seven’s city-center kitchen, using ingredients sourced directly from the English Market and other trusted local suppliers. Schools can opt for one of two delivery models: a ‘Fresh & Hot Just in Time’ service, where meals are delivered piping hot and ready to serve; or a ‘Fresh Morning Delivery’ option, allowing schools to reheat meals later, ideal for those with staggered lunch breaks.
“As the government tightens nutritional standards, we are fully aligned with those ambitions and look forward to contributing to the positive impact of this programme,” added Tara Lying, Director at Seventy Seven.
The new service meets stringent food safety requirements, offering meals free from sulphur dioxide and artificial preservatives. All menus are approved by nutritionists and cater to a range of dietary needs, including vegetarian and allergy-friendly options.
Beyond the health benefits, the initiative is expected to bring a welcome economic boost to the city. By sourcing directly from local producers, Seventy Seven ensures that spending stays within the Cork economy — supporting independent butchers, bakers, farmers, and suppliers. The expansion also creates new roles for chefs, kitchen assistants, and delivery drivers.
