Bakestone, the popular cafe based in Carrigtwohill, has opened a new location in the city centre serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch seven days a week, creating 18 new jobs and bringing its freshly made, locally sourced food into the heart of Cork.
“There’s real history in this building,” says Joe Carey, co-founder of Bakestone, about their new Perry Street café. “It felt like things coming full circle.”
Twelve years after first opening in Carrigtwohill, the popular food brand has officially launched its second location, right in the city centre, right beside Emmet Place in Cork city centre. The new cafe offers the perfect location for morning coffee, midweek breakfast meetings, casual weekend brunches, and fresh, flavour-packed lunches made from locally sourced ingredients.
Founded by husband and wife team Joe and Maura Carey in 2013, Bakestone began life in a repurposed car showroom on the eastern suburbs of the city. Over the years, it has grown into a thriving food destination with its own in house bakery and pantry range. Now, with the opening of their Perry Street café, Bakestone steps into the cróí na cathrach, the heart of the city, while staying true to their roots in community and craftsmanship. The cafe has created an additional 18 new jobs in the city centre.
“We’ve dreamed for years of bringing Bakestone into the city,” said Joe Carey.
“The history of this building, the connection to Cork’s butter trade, and even our own roots in dairy farming made it feel right.”
Maura Carey added:
“Cork’s independent food scene is one we’ve always admired. To now have a place among so many brilliant local businesses is something we’re really proud of. We hope this café becomes part of the daily rhythm of the city, a space to pause, connect, and enjoy food made with real care.”
The Perry Street cafe features many of the signature dishes Bakestone fans will know and love from Carrigtwohill, with everything prepared from scratch daily under the watch of Head Chef Pat Kiely. Whether you’re popping in for a weekday breakfast or a lingering weekend brunch, expect high-quality food served with warmth and passion by a team led by front of house manager Heather Doody.
Bakestone’s new city café seats up to 100 guests and plans are already underway to transform the space into a lively venue for evening events, pop-ups, music, and creative collaborations with other Cork makers and businesses.
While the menu at Bakestone Perry Street is wide and varied, here’s just a small taste of what’s on offer from the brunch side of things. Healthier options include slow-cooked jumbo oats, served with your choice of berry compote, fresh fruit and almonds, or banana with glazed pecans. There’s also the award-winning Bakestone granola, topped with Greek yoghurt, berry compote and local honey.
Eggs – cooked to your choice are served on sourdough toast with smashed avocado and hot sauce, or as a classic Eggs Benedict, Florentine, or Royale, each made fresh with their signature hollandaise.
American pancakes are a customer favourite, with topping choices like smoky streaky bacon and maple syrup, poached pear with salted caramel and mascarpone, or bananas and berries. The French toast is another standout hit, particularly at the weekend.
For something more traditional, the Bakestone Brekkie, their twist on the Full Irish is a must try. There’s also a selection of homemade quiche, served with salad and crispy potato bites, and their iconic sausage rolls, originally made famous in their East Cork cafe and bakery.
Locally roasted coffee, fresh juices, and a selection of pastries from Bakestone’s own scratch bakery round out the offering.

Bakestone has a strong commitment to local suppliers and producers. Since 2017, its Pantry range has expanded from a handful of items to over 150 Irish-made products, including sauces, preserves, and baked goods. This is their latest expansion, since 2023, when they opened a bakery in Carrigtwohill, turning out everything from buttery croissants to bespoke celebration cakes.
