Flooding has impacted on the lives of so many and has long term consequences for those whose properties have been destroyed.
October 2023 Storm Babet made its presence known and many parts of East Cork were flooded.
At least 1000 homes and businesses were wiped out with damage rising to around 200 million Euro.
To this very day people are still trying to put things right and there are ongoing talks about flood defences as well as flood warning systems for the town.
This coming Tuesday local Cllr Lam Quaide and a panel will gather in the Community Centre Midelton to discuss the latest proprosals.
In a statement Cllr Quaide said ” I’ve been urging Cork Co. Council since last October to explore the potential for natural flood defences in East Cork. There have been many examples of successful projects in the UK and some in Ireland that have been based on these principles of working with land use to build up flood resilience around towns and villages. These projects involve engagement between landowners, local communities and a range of agencies, including those overseeing forestry and rivers.”
The meeting is due to get underway at 7.30pm this Tuesday
