A man being questioned in relation to an attack on the home of a convicted criminal in Shanakiel Cork last evening has been released without charge.
The man in his 20s was picked up by Gardai after two men on a motorbike called to the mans home and smashed a number of windows .
The men one of whom was armed left the scene and shortly afterwards knocked down a man in Churchfield .
The man who is in his 60s sustained multiple injuries and is in a serious condition at CUH.
The men who were thrown from the motorbike when they struck the pedestrian ran from the scene leaving the elderly man seriously injured on the side of the road.
Gardai have since recovered a firearm and are following a number of definite leads.
The man whose home was attacked was recently released from prison after serving a lengthy stretch behind bars.
