This day 23 years ago the 9/11 attacks claimed almost 3.000 souls .

Today a group of New York Firefighters many of whom were on duty when America was attacked will join firefighters In Kinsale to remember those who lost their lives .

The FDNY members have been taking part in a charity cycle and visiting Fire Brigade Stations across Ireland since last week.

Prayers will be said at the Kinsale Garden of Remembrance where 343 trees are planted marking each of the New York Firefighters who perished on 9/11.

David O� Donovan of Kinsale Fire & Rescue is will extend the hand of friendship and greet his American colleagues who are due to arrive for the memorial at 5pm

A special tree planting ceremony as well as the unveiling of a plaque will take place.
