GUN AND AMMUNITION CHARGES

A man has appeared at a special court sitting charged in relation to a number of alleged incidents in Cork on August 23rd.

Jamie Russell with an address in Cork was charged with a string of offences after a house in Shanakiel Cork was allegedly attacked and a man allegedly knocked down.

Charges include reckless discharge of a gun as well as possession of a gun and ammunition.

He was also charged with an alleged hit and run , dangerous driving, driving without a license and insurance as well as theft and criminal damage.

In evidence to the court Detective Garda Mick Dolan said when charged the accused man made no reply.

23 year old Russell was arrested as part of an investigation after two men on a motorbike allegedly armed with a firearm called to a house of a well known convicted criminal and allegedly smashed a number of windows.

Shortly afterwards a man in his 60s was allegedly knocked down in Churchfield and remains in hospital with serious injuries .

This afternoons court sitting was told Gardai were objecting to bail.

Russell who did not speak during the hearing was remanded in custody and will be back in court at a later date.
