A prominent Cork web designer, has made a unique purchase—one of the last bottles of the famous curry sauce from Jackie Lennox’s Chipper. The sauce, a much-loved favourite of the legendary Cork chipper, was sold by a private seller on eBay. In a quirky and charitable twist, after competing against 16 other bidders, Norbert secured the coveted sauce for €51.
This isn’t just any ordinary eBay purchase though. In a generous gesture, half of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to Cork Penny Dinners, a vital Cork charity that has been serving meals to those in need for decades.
Jackie Lennox’s Chipper, established in 1951, has long been a cornerstone of Cork’s food scene. Its famous curry sauce has achieved almost cult status over the years, making this particular auction a buzz-worthy event for locals. The eBay seller, recognizing the sauce’s cultural value, decided to split the profits with Cork Penny Dinners, further emphasizing Cork’s tight-knit and charitable community.

Norbert, who is passionate about supporting local causes, was thrilled with the opportunity to contribute to such a beloved charity.
“I couldn’t resist the nostalgia of owning one of the last bottles of Lennox’s famous curry sauce. But more importantly, it’s fantastic to know that half of what I paid will help Cork Penny Dinners continue their amazing work,” said Norbert.
Cork Penny Dinners is one of the city’s oldest charitable organizations, providing hundreds of hot meals every day to those in need. The donation from this curry sauce sale will help further their mission of supporting vulnerable people across the city.
This fun yet meaningful purchase not only celebrates Cork’s food heritage but also shines a light on the generosity that runs through the community—where even a bottle of curry sauce can make a real difference in people’s lives.
