Mahon on the Southside of Cork has joined Cork City Centre and Fermoy in achieving “clean” status in the latest Irish Business Against Litter survey
The area was among 40 towns and cities were assessed as part of the ranking
Cork’s Northside, although still classified as “littered,” recorded year-on-year improvement.
The survey found that the Deposit Return Scheme is still delivering clear benefits for town and city cleanliness.
Compared with last year, cans and plastic bottles were 10% less prevalent, and since the scheme’s launch in early 2024, these items have become 60% less common.
Coffee cups however remain one of the most commonly found forms of litter scattered across parts of Cork.
