Pupils arriving at Coláiste Éamainn Rís in Cork today were greeted with a very sweet surprise — an ice cream van has become the newest addition to the school.
The van has been gifted to the school by O’ Crualaoi Butchers and will be used to give pupils a hands-on introduction to the world of business and e-commerce.
Each day, pupils will have the opportunity to serve ice cream and other treats to their fellow students — who will, of course, have to pay for them!
But this is much more than simply selling ice cream.
The pupils will be running the van as a real business, learning about trading, money, customer service, marketing and how to make a profit.
And the business won’t be confined to the school grounds.
The pupils plan to take the ice cream van to festivals and other events, selling 99s, slush puppies, ice creams and whatever else they can come up with to make the venture a success.
The surprise has gone down a treat, with pupils delighted to see their new business venture arrive at the school.
Now they’re looking forward to getting stuck into the world of trading.
And who knows — this time next year, this little school ice cream business could have become something much bigger!
