CORK FEUDS

There are now up to 8 violent feuds raging between rival groups in Cork city and county.

Garda are aware of each person involved in the bitter disputes which have resulted in many including a 12 year old girl sustaining serious injuries.

Those involved arent afraid to use lethal weapons such as machetes, pitchforks, slashooks as well as petrol bombs and in many cases guns.

As it is Garda resources are stretched and feuds add extra strain on the already under pressure Garda units.

Gangs are at each others throats for a multitude of reasons but surprisingly some are totally unaware why and just get wrapped up in the violence not knowing the possible backgrounds to the ongoing attacks.

Sadly I believe one or more will get killed not before long as the feuds are getting more and more violent.

I hope my prediction is wrong but its getting to the point of no return.

When it comes to dealing with gangs who think they’re one step ahead of the Gardai , Superintendent Gary McPolin says “they should think again as no one is untouchable”

The highly respected and experienced officer is determined to put a stop to the feuds and will come down like a tonne of bricks on those involved.

The job of the Gardai “is to restore law and order and that we will do” said the Superintendent.

Armed officers are patrolling the county both day and night in a bid to prevent loss of life.

Recently 110 recruits graduated at the Garda College, from that number the Southern Region got just 10 Gardai.

Any loss of life will result in a family losing a loved one and when caught and put behind bars for life the culprits family will be without their member.

There are no winners and never will be
