File To DPP In Fatal Assault

Gardai investigating the death Vanessa O’ Callaghan in Cork have questioned two people.

36 year old Ms O’Callaghan died three days after being attacked while attending a soup kitchen in Cork in December2024.

Officers investigating Ms O’ Callaghan’s death received the results of the post mortem sometime ago which paved the way to progress the investigation.

Gardai arrested a man and a woman yesterday and both of whom are in their 30s were questioned for a number of hours before they were released without charge in the early hours of this morning.

A file will be sent to the DPP for further directions.

Ms O’Callaghan was originally from Coach Street in the city centre had been using the services of those who provide meals to some of Corks vulnerable.

The mother of three had just received a sleeping bag from a group of volunteers when she was beaten by two people both of whom are known to Gardai.

At the time of her death friends described Vanessa O’ Callaghan as a “pure gem”.
