Gardaí have seized a number of firearms and a quantity of drugs following the search of a car in Charleville, Co. Cork.
The vehicle was stopped at a service station in the town on Wednesday night, where a detailed search was carried out. During the operation, officers discovered a 3D-printed handgun, a shotgun, and an AK-47 assault rifle. Heroin with an estimated street value of €800 was also recovered.
Two men, believed to be brothers aged in their 30s and 40s and originally from Cork, were arrested at the scene. They are currently being held at a Garda station in the region under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
The car is believed to have been travelling from Limerick before stopping in Charleville. Gardaí say the men are well known to detectives and have described the seizures and arrests as significant.
Investigations are ongoing.
