A Cork mother has told All About Cork that she slept with a baseball bat under her pillow after two of her teenage sons were assaulted on Friday night.
The boys, aged 17 and 15, had just left Mahon Point Shopping Centre when they were set upon by two youths while passing St Michael’s Graveyard between 9.30pm and 9.45pm.
According to their mother, one of the brothers suffered head and facial injuries and was transferred to CUH for treatment.
The younger boy was also injured but did not require hospital treatment.
Speaking to All About Cork, the victims’ mother said she was “horrified” by what had happened and believes that “law and order has gone out the window.”
She said her sons were lucky that the two attackers were not carrying knives or any other type of weapon.
She is now calling on local representatives to ensure the number of Gardaí patrolling the Mahon area is increased before someone is killed.
She said she felt compelled to speak out to raise her concerns and let people know what is happening.
The mother also described how she slept with a baseball bat under her pillow on Friday night because she feared the two youths who attacked her sons might come to the family home.
Anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the attack is asked to contact Blackrock Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
It is understood that detectives have identified persons of interest and are continuing their investigations.
