At this stage, you’re probably in the throes of stocking the fridge and buying all the bits to ensure you have a merry Christmas. The good news is that most supermarkets are operating extended opening hours across Cork , and we have put together a tore-by-store breakdown to help you get sorted.

Lidl is offering longer operating hours nationwide in the lead-up to Christmas.

  • December 22nd: 8am to 10pm 
  • December 23rd: 8am to 10pm  
  • Christmas Eve: 8am to 6pm
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • St. Stephen’s Day: Closed
  • December 27th: 8am to 10pm 
  • December 28th: 9am to 9pm
  • December 29th: 8am to 10pm 
  • December 30th: 8am to 10pm 
  • New Year’s Eve: 8am to 6pm
  • New Year’s Day: Closed

Aldi stores nationwide will generally be adhering to a set schedule.

  • December 22nd: 8am to 11pm 
  • December 23rd: 8am to 11pm  
  • Christmas Eve: 8am to 7pm
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • St. Stephen’s Day: Closed
  • December 27th: 8am to 9pm 
  • December 28th: 9am to 9pm
  • December 29th: 8am to 9pm
  • December 30th: 8am to 9pm
  • New Year’s Eve: 8am to 7pm
  • New Year’s Day: Closed

Dunnes Stores opening hours depend on each store’s specific location, so it’s advisable to check locally.

  • December 22nd: Many stores will extend their closing time to midnight, and select larger stores will be open for 24 hours.
  • December 23rd: Many stores will extend their closing time to midnight, and select larger stores will be open for 24 hours.
  • Christmas Eve: Stores will generally close at 6pm
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • St. Stephen’s Day: Closed

As an example, these are the opening hours for the Ballincollig store.

  • December 22nd: 7am to midnight 
  • December 23rd: 7am to midnight
  • Christmas Eve: 7am to 6pm
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • St. Stephen’s Day: Closed
  • New Year’s Eve: 8am to 7pm
  • New Year’s Day: 11am-7pm

A Tesco Superstore is a standard-sized supermarket and these are its hours. They may differ for Tesco Express (e.g., Denneheys Cross) and Tesco Extra (e.g., Douglas Road) so it’s best to check locally.

  • December 22nd: Open to midnight 
  • December 23rd: Open to midnight 
  • Christmas Eve: 7am to 7pm
  • Christmas Day: Closed
  • St. Stephen’s Day: Select stores open from 10am to 6pm 
  • New Year’s Eve: 8am to 8pm.
  • New Year’s Day: Select stores open from 10am to 6pm

For Marks & Spencer (M&S), please check individual store times. Please note that store opening hours and hours for franchise locations (e.g., Applegreen) will vary.

As each SuperValu store is independently owned, their Christnas schedule is set by the owners so it’s best to check locally. As a guideline, all stores are closed on Christmas Day.
