Gardai in Cork have launched two investigations following a petrol bomb attack as well as an incident where a grenade was thrown at a house.
A man has been arrested following a petrol bomb attack on a pub in Cork.
It’s understood the man first arrived to Murphy’s Rock Bar and Restaurant near Ballyvolane Cork but left after words were exchanged with a staff member only to return a few moment’s later with a slash hook.
He left the scene again this time in his car but returned a short time later and threw a petrol at the pub.
Three unit’s of Cork City Fire service responded just before 11 pm and quickly dealt with the blaze.
Security staff at the pub managed to restrain the culprit and he was arrested by Gardai who also answered the 999 call.
The man who’s believed to be in his in his 30s and known to Gardai is currently in custody at Mayfield Garda Station.
Two people were treated at the scene for shock , the pub sustained no major damage.
Separately and unconnected Gardai are also investigating an incident where a suspected hand grenade was thrown into a house in Cork at around midnight.
Officers responded after receiving a call that a suspected live grenade had landed in the front garden of a house at Meadow Park Avenue Ballyvolane Cork.
The house was occupied at the time.
The device failed to detonate and the Army Bomb Squad was called in.
Homes in the area were evacuated and up to 40 resident’s had to take shelter.
The device was made safe and homeowners returned to their beds after 3.30 am.
Gardai believe the incident is linked to a shooting in Fairhill Cork on Saturday night.
