Heroin sown into clothing and a stash of drugs left in a courthouse toilet are just some of the contraband uncovered by the Irish Prison Service as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal activity among inmates.

Dealers and addicts will go to great lengths to get their hands on drugs while behind bars, but intelligence-led searches of cells carried out on a daily basis have led to countless seizures.

There has also been a greater focus on deliveries to prisons across the country following the discovery of drugs hidden in packages sent to a number of inmates.

The Irish Prison Service continues to invest heavily in new technology and security measures in a bid to disrupt organised crime groups attempting to smuggle contraband into jails.
