Members of the National Ambulance Service who are allowed to take their HSE Response cars home could soon be paying Benefit in Kind.
Officers have reacted angrily to recommendations they park up the response vehicles once a shift comes to an end meaning they will no longer be able to respond to emergencies once they leave work.
The move according to sources is going to massively reduce ambulance resource response times in communities.
Some of of these officers provide advanced life support assistant at scenes and to ambulances on their way to the emergency dept with critically ill patients.
It will cause a significant impact on response times to critically ill patients and ultimately impact on patient care.
85% of these ambulance officers would respond to emergency calls out of hours but will no longer be able to do so if they have no access to their HSE response vehicles.
The HSE has been asked for comment
