Despite having 250 million Euro in the bank a Lottery winner said he will still enjoy his ham and cheese sandwiches at lunchtime.
The multi millionaire was chatting after he and other members of his family stopped off at the National Lottery offices to collect a cheque for a staggering 250 million euro.
A spokesman for the National Lottery said an Irish family syndicate has officially claimed the largest EuroMillions jackpot in Ireland’s history, walking away with an astonishing €250 million.
The winners, who have chosen to remain anonymous, described the experience as “surreal” and said the life-changing journey began with a routine errand in Cork.
One family member, who stopped into Clifford’s Centra on Shandon Street, decided on a whim to buy a ticket after noticing the €250 million jackpot sign at the till. “Although I’m a regular player, I hadn’t bought a ticket for the last two draws,” they said. “I picked one up and honestly, didn’t think much of it.”
That spontaneous decision turned into a life-altering moment when the family learned they had the winning ticket. “I scanned it on the National Lottery app and saw the message: ‘You’ve won big, contact the National Lottery.’ I must have checked it four more times—I just couldn’t believe my eyes.”
After a sleepless night, they called the Claims Team first thing in the morning and received confirmation that they were indeed the sole winners. “Those few minutes on hold felt like the longest of my life,” one recalled.
The winning ticket was kept hidden beneath a pile of folded laundry until it could be safely delivered.
Since then, the family has taken time to absorb the news, remaining grounded and continuing with daily routines.
Their first plans? A family holiday and possibly purchasing holiday homes.
They also intend to buy homes for their children and support extended family, close friends, and charities close to their hearts.
Despite their newfound wealth, they have no plans for lavish changes.
One family member quipped, “I’ll still be having my favourite ham and cheese sambo for lunch every day!” Another shared a longtime dream: owning a Rolex. “I went window shopping just to look—couldn’t believe the price. I told my wife and she said, ‘Sure you can buy them now if you want!’”
The family remains committed to staying in Ireland and keeping life as normal as possible. “We promised ourselves this win won’t change who we are.”
