SuperValu Hollyhill Cork Temporarily Closed Following FSAI Order
Earlier this month, SuperValu Hollyhill in Cork closed suddenly, initially citing “maintenance” as the reason. However, it has since emerged that the closure was ordered by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).
According to the FSAI website, the supermarket was served a closure order and remained shut from the 4th to the 6th of September 2025, inclusive. The details of the enforcement action have now been made public.
Under Irish food law, the FSAI and environmental health officers have the authority to close a food business or prohibit it from handling, preparing, or selling food if there are hygiene concerns, non-compliance with food safety legislation, or risks to public health. These powers exist to protect consumer safety.
The store, which has been in receivership since July of this year, has since reopened and resumed normal trading.
