A growing number of Cork men and women are opting for laser liposuction, with Dr Juan Corado, founder and Medical Director of Q Clinic Medical Aesthetic Institute, saying demand has increased significantly in recent years.
Speaking to All About Cork, Dr Corado said people are increasingly looking for treatments that deliver noticeable results without the lengthy recovery periods traditionally associated with surgery.
“People today are busy. They have careers, families and responsibilities, and they want treatments that fit around their lives,” said Dr Corado. “That is one of the biggest reasons these modern minimally invasive procedures have become so popular.”

Dr Juan Corado, a Cork-based specialist in Aesthetic and Regenerative Medicine, says that what many people commonly call ‘laser liposuction’ is in fact an advanced combination of ultrasound and laser technologies designed to remove stubborn fat deposits while enhancing skin tightening and overall body contouring.
“What many people call laser liposuction today is actually a treatment that combines VASER and laser technology.
The VASER helps gently break down the fat before it is removed, while the laser stimulates collagen production and helps tighten the skin. It is not just about removing fat,” explained Dr Corado.

Unlike traditional liposuction, which focuses primarily on fat removal through suction, these newer techniques are designed to be gentler on the body, resulting in less bruising, swelling and downtime. According to Dr Corado, this has made them particularly attractive to people who cannot afford to take weeks away from work or family commitments.
“Most patients describe the recovery as feeling similar to muscle soreness after a tough gym session. Many are back to normal daily activities the following day, which often surprises people. We usually just advise avoiding intense exercise for about a week,” he said.
Another major advantage is that the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia.

“The patient remains comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure and is able to interact with me the entire time,” said Dr Corado.
According to the Cork doctor, the most commonly treated areas include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms and back. However, one area that has seen a significant rise in popularity in recent years is the chin and jawline.
“Since the pandemic, we have definitely seen an increase in patients looking to treat areas like the jawline, neck and double chin. During years of video calls and online meetings, people became much more aware of their facial features because they were seeing themselves on screen every day,” he explained.
While cosmetic procedures were once seen as something sought predominantly by women, Dr Corado says that is no longer the case.

“We are definitely seeing more men becoming interested in laser liposuction and facial treatments.
Men today are much more open about aesthetic procedures and are increasingly focused on looking healthy, defined and well cared for. There is far less stigma around cosmetic treatments than there was ten years ago,” he told All About Cork.
One misconception he frequently encounters is the belief that laser liposuction is a weight-loss treatment.
“It is important to understand that these procedures are not designed for weight loss. Nothing replaces good nutrition, healthy habits and exercise. The purpose of the treatment is body contouring and reshaping by targeting localised fat deposits that are often resistant to diet and exercise,” said Dr Corado.

As aesthetic medicine continues to grow in Ireland, Dr Corado believes attitudes towards cosmetic treatments have evolved dramatically.
“People are much more open now about wanting to look healthy, feel confident and take care of themselves. The goal should never be to look like somebody else or to chase perfection. It should be about ageing well, feeling comfortable in your own skin and maintaining a natural appearance,” he said.
For those considering treatment but feeling nervous about taking the first step, Dr Corado says education and realistic expectations are key.
“Feeling nervous is completely normal. Any medical procedure should be approached carefully and with the right information. The most important thing is to have a consultation with a qualified medical professional who can explain the procedure honestly and help determine whether it is the right option for that individual.”

With more Cork people seeking treatments that offer effective results with minimal disruption to their daily lives, Dr Juan Corado believes modern laser liposuction procedures will continue to become increasingly mainstream.
“Cork is a fast-moving city and people value their time. These technologies allow us to achieve very natural-looking results with less downtime and quicker recovery, and that is exactly why demand continues to grow.”
