People in Cork with a sweet tooth are set to spend around €32 on Easter eggs this year, with spending rising to €40 in households with children.
Over the Easter period, an estimated 64,790 tonnes of packaging is expected to be recycled. Repak is encouraging consumers to recycle as much as possible, as well as reduce and reuse packaging where they can.
New research commissioned by Repak reveals that 85% of people feel confident about how to recycle Easter egg packaging correctly. Most respondents understand that packaging should be clean, dry, and placed loosely in the recycling bin. More than half of those expecting to receive Easter eggs also say they plan to recycle all of the packaging.
Repak CEO Zoe Kavanagh said the research highlights growing awareness around sustainability. While Easter eggs remain a popular tradition, consumers are increasingly paying attention to how products are packaged. Many now consider recyclability when choosing Easter eggs for family and friends, with nearly 60% of shoppers saying it is an important factor—showing how sustainability has become part of everyday decision-making.
