Match of the Day at Canty’s

3 Min Read

As a huge Manchester United supporter I looked at the possibility of travelling to Bilbao in Spain to cheer them on in Wednesday’s Europa League Final against fellow Premier League side Tottenham. But again I left things until the last minute, so of course all the flights were booked up out of Cork and Dublin.

All other routes I checked out were way to expensive and the days out and back didn’t suit.

So I ended up going to watch the game at Canty’s Bar in Pembroke Street in the middle of Cork City with my partner Alice and her father Roger. Also Man U fans. We got there in good time for a seat and I have to say it’s a great place to watch a game.

A big number of large screens and the sound was perfect. The atmosphere there was top class I have to say.

The Man U fans outnumbered the Tottenham fans I would say by at least 10 to 1, but when Tottenham went ahead in the 42nd minute, the place erupted with all of the ABU fans cheering on the London club.

The atmosphere became tense for Man U supporters after that as their awful season was becoming worse. United are probably the most supported English club in this country given their history and strong Irish connection.

Try as they might to get back in the game, they just couldn’t get past a well organised Tottenham defence.

At the full time whistle there was more doom and gloom for United fans and the banter was what next ?.

How many of the players will leave – How many will stay ?. The managers future and the usual stuff.

Bar (pardon the pun) a very disappointing night for us United fans, but i would give the Canty’s big match experience a good 9 out of 10.

I will be back but let’s hope United can get back to their past glories. Next season will tell a lot.
