When it comes to a seamless makeup routine, having a small but powerful selection of products the suit you is the key to developing a fast and flawless everyday face formula.

Lizzy Desmond has over two decades of experience in makeup artistry, and having worked on the busy Brown Thomas beauty counters in the past and trialling endless products for her work as both a dedicated bridal makeup artist and RTE’s Today show makeup artist, she knows more than most when it comes to choosing the right products.

“So I normally get about five minutes to do my makeup,” she said, citing her busy work schedule. “Between rushing to work and having the toddler and I’ve always been on the go, that is literally the amount of time I give myself to do my makeup.”

“I’m either doing it while I’m rushing out the door to a wedding or I’m always doing it when I pull up to the venue in the car. I spend very, very little time doing my makeup because I’m down to a fine art now.”

Lizzy has some products that make her lightning-fast routine possible, relying on a tried and tested roster of quality products to make it happen. Her makeup look is glowy, classic and highlights her features.

Starting off with a good base, she is a fan of the Milk Hydro Grip primer, €20.30 from Cult Beauty, which helps keep makeup fresh for up to 12 hours while hydrating the skin for a dewy-fresh look. “One of my favourite products in my kit at the moment is Milk Hydro Grip and a tinted moisturiser. I absolutely love the texture and the consistency of it. It’s stunning and it just goes on so quickly. “

To sculpt and add colour to her cheeks, she likes a combination of bronzer and blusher, with the Chanel Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream, €60.00 from Brown Thomas, and a Dior Backstage blusher in a pink shade, €43.00 from Dior. “I always pop on a little bit of cream bronzer, like a Chanel bronzer on my cheeks. I love Dior backstage pink. It’s my favourite blusher of all time ever. And it’s such a stunning shade.”

Her top recommendations for eyes are YSL’s Full Lash mascara, which she has been using for “decades,” as well as Trini London’s cream eyeshadows. “I love Trini London actually, their products are amazing. So I use the cream eye shadows on my eyes, pop on the little bit mascara. My mascara of choice is always YSL Full Lash. I’ve been using it for decades and decades.”

She is a fan of some Irish makeup companies too, with Brow Aid her top choice for all things eyebrows. “I pop that on my brows to give them like a soft laminated look,” she says of their products.

As for lips, a hydrating lip oil is always a winner. “My lip choice would be Dior lip oil. It’s my all-time favourite. It’s just really, really hydrating, especially at this time of year, when my lips are dry and it’s getting colder.” Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil is €44.00 from Dior.

“I keep it simple. I have those few products in my bag and I kind of rinse and repeat every day,” she said.
