Family Fun and Community Spirit to Shine at Lauralynn Picnic Day
A day of music, food, family entertainment and fundraising is set to take place at Curraghbeg Nursery and Garden Centre, Ovens, on Sunday, June 21st, as the annual Lauralynn Picnic Day returns for another memorable celebration.
The event supports Lauralynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, which provides specialist care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The charity was founded by Jane and Brendan McKenna following the heartbreaking loss of their two daughters, Laura, aged four, and Lynn, aged 15, who passed away just 20 months apart.
The popular picnic day aims to raise both funds and awareness for the vital work carried out by the organisation.
Visitors can look forward to a unique community dining experience as organisers attempt to create Ireland’s longest picnic table.
Guests are encouraged to bring either a savoury dish or a sweet treat to share, adding to what promises to be a fantastic feast of local flavours.
A major attraction this year will be the opening of Ireland’s largest Hobbit House at the garden centre.
The impressive structure has been six years in development and is expected to attract visitors of all ages.
Guests will also have the opportunity to explore Ireland’s longest wisteria tunnel, which is currently nearing completion.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day with seven musical acts taking to the stage.
Performers include Fiona Kennedy, Champagne Cork, The Westgate Choir, Smoking Kippers, Tom and Lauren, Hares Corner Band , Boggle and the ever-popular Big Bird Puppeteers.
A circus group will also offer interactive activities for children, including juggling, unicycling and diabolo workshops, while their comedy performances are sure to bring plenty of laughter as they mingle with crowds throughout the venue.
The event’s craft village will feature more than a dozen exhibitors, including members of the renowned Togher Crafters, showcasing a wide variety of handmade gifts and crafts.
Food lovers will be spoiled for choice, with a vegetarian Indian food section, delicious homemade cakes, cold refreshments and ice cream available from the popular beach bar area.
The family fundraising day begins at 11am and continues until approximately 7pm. Curraghbeg Nursery and Garden Centre is located opposite Ovens Bar, just outside Ballincollig.
By attending, families will not only enjoy a wonderful day out but will also be helping to support an extremely worthwhile cause that continues to make a profound difference in the lives of children and families across Ireland.
