Cork For The World Cup

3 Min Read

Cork’s unmistakable sense of humour is heading straight into homes across Ireland this summer, as two of Leeside’s best-loved actors take centre stage for RTÉ’s FIFA World Cup coverage.

Fresh from winning over audiences in The Young Offenders, Dominic MacHale and Shane Casey are bringing their trademark Cork charm to a brand-new daily RTÉ vodcast, Up All Night, launched to celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Available every morning on RTÉ Player and wherever podcasts are found, the show will also air daily on RTÉ2 ahead of live World Cup coverage.

With matches taking place across different time zones and plenty of overnight kick-offs, Dominic and Shane are taking one for the team — staying awake so the rest of us don’t have to. From their Cork sitting room, they’ll serve up a lively mix of football stories, unforgettable moments, and plenty of laughs as they recap all the action from the night before.

While Ireland may not have booked a place at this year’s tournament, there’s still plenty to enjoy. From cheering on the underdogs to celebrating outrageous goal celebrations and keeping an eye on England’s latest hopes that “It’s Coming Home”, Up All Night promises to capture the fun side of football.

The pair are quick to point out that they’re football fans rather than football experts. So, if detailed tactical analysis is what you’re after, the pundits have that covered. But if you enjoy the stories, characters, drama and pure entertainment that make the World Cup so special, then this is the show for you.

A total of 35 episodes will be produced from a purpose-built studio at RTÉ Cork, blending iconic moments from the tournament with memories from football history — all delivered with a uniquely Irish and unmistakably Cork twist.

As the world’s biggest sporting event unfolds, Cork will once again be proudly represented on the national stage, with Dominic and Shane bringing a little bit of Leeside magic to football fans every morning.

Up All Night is available now on RTÉ Player, RTÉ Radio Player and wherever you get your podcasts, as well as airing daily on RTÉ2 ahead of FIFA World Cup live coverage.
