Following the success of its inaugural “Cleaning and Greening” event on North Main Street, the Cork Business Association (CBA) hosted a second revitalisation effort this morning, focusing on Oliver Plunkett Street and adjoining Winthrop Street.
CBA members, local business owners, and volunteers gathered early at The Old Oak Bar, where they were welcomed by newly appointed Lord Mayor Fergal Dennehy before rolling up their sleeves to clean, paint, remove chewing gum, and install flower boxes along the busy city centre streets.
McKechnie Cleaning Services once again played a crucial role, supplying professional equipment to ensure a high-quality finish.
The initiative, which stretched from Vodafone to The Welcome Inn, is part of the CBA’s ongoing campaign to improve Cork’s city streets one at a time — fostering civic pride and enhancing the urban environment for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
A visual audit guided the clean-up efforts, targeting neglected signage, litter, and worn infrastructure.
Participants were rewarded with a well-deserved lunch provided by Market Lane, capping off a successful morning of community collaboration.
“This was about more than just a tidy-up — it was about pride in our shared spaces,” said CBA President Dave O’Brien. “We’re thrilled to see this initiative grow and gain momentum.”
